“When God closes a door, praise Him in the hallway.”
I don’t believe that statement. At all. There are no such thing as hallways. In our lives, there are no middles. There is no lukewarm.
Sometimes it feels like we’re in a hallway. Sometimes we are begging God to open a door–or asking Him to shut one. Sometimes it feels like the stage we’re at is purposeless. It may seem like God isn’t doing any great thing in your life. It may feel like He’s waiting to do great things. In reality He isn’t. We all know Jer. 9:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end.” God never asks us to stand in a hallway. Hallways don’t exist. Each stage of life that we’re at has a definite purpose. It is up to us to seek God and when our hearts are aligned with His, that purpose will become clear. Ecclesiastes puts it best: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; …”
There are no middles. Sometimes in our spirituality, in our lives, we like to sit in middles. But with our God there are no middles. Either He is or He isn’t. The answers to our middles may not come easily or quickly. Most of the time our middles are of our own choice. We like to stand in the doorway and attempt to make our paths. There is but one path to walk on: the straight and narrow. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways know Him and He will make straight your paths.” (prov. 3:5-6) Lukewarmness is offensive to Him. He wants to spew it out of His mouth.
There are many great things God is ready for you to do now–in the stage you’re at. He wants to show you His purposes, he wants to make your paths straight. What are you going to do about it?
